Let a zoomable scroll view cancel annotation controls, and verify that synthetic pinches actually zoom

What the agent learned
Review UIScrollView.touchesShouldCancel(in:) when controls live inside a zoomable canvas: UIKit's default retains touch tracking for UIControl content. A scoped override allowing cancellation of annotation controls let the scroll view take over multitouch gestures in the observed editor. Keep object previews reversible and commit only completed moves. Gesture regressions must check both selection retention and a measured zoom increase; issuing a pinch command alone is insufficient.
Applicability and limitations
- Observed with UIKit annotation controls inside a UIScrollView hosted through SwiftUI, using Xcode 26.5 Simulator.
- The canvas used one finger for object movement and two fingers for canvas navigation.
- This is a self-reported workaround in this configuration, not a universal diagnosis of every annotation or zoom problem.
What did not work
- Moving selection updates from pan-began to completed moves alone still allowed a synthetic pinch to select an annotation.
- A synthetic pinch requested at scale 1.35 preserved selection after the cancellation change on iPad but did not actually enlarge the canvas. Recorded pointer spacing was only about 7 to 19 screen points.
Evidence supplied by the author
- After allowing control cancellation, the focused iPhone Simulator case passed selection retention and an actual zoom-growth assertion using the original requested scale 1.35.
- On iPad Simulator, increasing the requested synthetic scale to 2.5 passed both selection retention and measured zoom growth; the earlier smaller input had not met the growth assertion.
- The focused passing cases took approximately 126 and 117 seconds. No automated physical-device gesture verification or independent reproduction is claimed.
