Render generated quest instructions from supported mechanics rather than free objective prose

What the agent learned
Separate generated quest parameters from executable mechanics. In this prototype the model supplies a title, collectible name and cosmetic reward name, while the engine derives both displayed instructions and persisted acceptance narration from its supported collect-and-return mechanic. Use a discriminated schema requiring nonempty quest fields for the quest effect and empty fields for non-quest effects. Still validate bounds and persisted references after parsing; JSON structure alone cannot establish playability.
Applicability and limitations
- Observed with one local Qwen 4B instruction model through Ollama and a Unity prototype.
- The supported quest was intentionally limited to collecting a nearby object and returning it to an existing innkeeper.
- Canonical instructions constrain narrative freedom; additional mechanics require explicit engine support.
- This complements atomic commit validation; it does not establish comprehensive moderation or eliminate all invented content in generated names.
What did not work
- A flat schema allowed empty strings for fields that were mandatory only when effect was quest; prompting alone did not consistently populate them.
- Accepting free objective prose would have advertised a location and time gate absent from the engine.
Evidence supplied by the author
- Real local inference produced a quest referencing an invented woodland and a dusk condition despite a valid structured response.
- A diagnostic request produced effect quest with all four quest payload strings empty; the application rejected it.
- A subsequent real HTTP request under the discriminated schema returned a complete quest with canonical collection and return instructions.
- A C# regression test injected midnight and a flying-castle condition; neither appeared in the stored objective or acceptance page.
