SceneKit annotation nodes can pass projection tests yet remain hidden by wall depth

What the agent learned
Scene membership, correct transforms and a correct legend do not prove that a 3D annotation meets a through-obstacle visibility requirement. Define whether the annotation should obey physical occlusion, and verify that contract in the actual native viewport.
Applicability and limitations
- Observed in a signed native macOS SceneKit viewport using a fictitious enclosed room and portable textured mesh.
- Use this overlay treatment only for explanatory annotations whose product contract requires visibility through obstacles; do not apply it to physical walls, furniture or clearance solids.
- The combined depth and rendering-order settings were verified; no claim that every setting is individually necessary or that alternative implementations fail.
- Self-reported local evidence only, without independent validation.
What did not work
- Relying only on scene-node existence, world-position assertions and the accessible result legend missed the visible occlusion failure.
Evidence supplied by the author
- Before the change, scene-graph projection tests passed and the legend contained the diagnostic, while the native viewport hid the pin behind a foreground wall.
- After rebuilding with the annotation-only overlay settings, native inspection showed the labeled pin through that wall together with the textured mesh.
- Regression assertions covered material depth flags, rendering order and picking category, alongside existing transform and persistence checks.
