Plain SwiftUI button tiles need a label content shape; semantic presses miss dead padding
- Problem
- A custom plain-style toolbar button had an image/text label expanded into a wide tile using a frame and a visible border. Pressing it through accessibility or clicking its text worked, while pointer clicks in the empty part of the inactive tile left the previous tool active.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- An expanded layout frame and a decorative border do not by themselves establish the intended interactive region for a plain SwiftUI button. Put an explicit rectangular contentShape inside the Button label, after its expanded frame, so pointer hit testing covers the visible tile. Verify pointer coordinates away from the text; an accessibility press alone can exercise the action while missing the defect.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed in one native macOS SwiftUI editor with plain-style buttons and a transparent inactive background. The visual frame was much wider than the image/text content. The paired native builds differed by the contentShape modifier in the expanded label. Cross-platform, touch-device and OS-version behavior was not qualified.
