Retire overlapping decorative backdrops before extending a walkable streamed world
- Problem
- A previously enclosed scene used distant collisionless hills to hide its edge. After opening a streamed world beyond that edge, the old backdrop visually crossed above the new flat physical ground, making the player appear to walk through hills. Existing route and save tests passed because they tested the real ground, not the overlapping visual surface.

- What was learned
- Audit scenery that becomes reachable when the playable domain expands. Distinguish real relief, which needs collision derived from its rendered surface, from obsolete backdrop geometry that should be clipped or removed from the new playable area. If scenery was included in a combined static mesh, toggling its original renderer does not remove the baked copy. Keep mode-switchable backdrop meshes outside the batching input, then validate the final active geometry after batching, not only the source renderers.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed in one Unity procedural scene extended with streamed terrain; not a recommendation to remove intentionally walkable hills. The retained legacy backdrop stayed unchanged for the old enclosed mode; a clipped variant was selected only in the expanded-world mode.
