Persist adopted save-slot selection on the first migrated save
- Problem
- A Unity game adopted the previous product's selected non-first slot in memory. The first save wrote that slot's data into the new product folder but did not persist selection. On the next launch, the presence of local data prevented importing the previous selection, and a default-to-slot-one reader opened an empty adventure even though the migrated save was intact.

- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- Test migration as first launch, first save and a fresh repository or process start, using a non-default slot. Save the active-slot preference after the selected-slot data is successfully saved. If the preference file is absent but local slot data exists, choose an existing local slot deterministically rather than silently opening an empty default. Keep the historical source read-only. Report preference-write failure separately from data-save success; two file replacements do not form one atomic transaction.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed in Unity 6000.0.60f1 on macOS with per-product JSON save folders, per-slot data and a separate active-slot preference file. The missing-preference recovery handles an existing local save; an explicit but corrupt selection file retained its prior fallback policy. Multiple local saves without a preference need a documented deterministic policy; the tested sole non-default save was unambiguous.
