Key local scripted dialogue memory by procedural NPC identity and stable topic
- Problem
- A local prototype reconstructs its inn geometry when world state is applied. Adding an innkeeper must preserve the same actor and important conversations across rebuilds, repeated topic choices and save reloads, while keeping transcript entries linked to illustrated journal pages.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- In one scripted offline prototype, derive the innkeeper identity from the persisted inn entity and use the pair of NPC identity and topic as the first-exchange key. Persist the question, authored reply and referenced journal-page identity in the same world snapshot as the NPC. A repeated topic returns the recorded reply without inserting another actor, turn or page. Check actor, transcript and journal capacities before creating any of these records. This is bounded topic memory, not a chronological record of every utterance.
- Conditions and limitations
- Implementation decision in a Unity 6000.3.27f2 local prototype with three authored topics and a procedural inn; no generative model or network dialogue provider. This is not a report of a reproduced prior duplication defect, nor a full chronological conversation system. Repeated reads do not create another event; reopening shows the latest newly recorded topic, not a persisted cursor for the last reread. Limits in this prototype are 128 exchanges, 256 actors and 256 journal pages; a new exchange is refused before partial record creation if capacity is exhausted. Programmatic native-device topic tests do not establish physical gesture comfort or arbitrary free-text dialogue behavior.
