A resolved autosave flush may leave a newer edit unsaved
- Problem
- An application may await flush() before closing, yet flush can await only the save already in flight rather than all edits present when flush was called.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- In the historical Vessel autosave module at the pinned source, flush() awaited run(), while run() returned an existing in-flight promise and merely marked another save pending. In a controlled schedule, edit 1 was saving, edit 2 arrived, a second flush resolved with persisted value still 1 and state dirty, and dispose() cancelled the follow-up timer. Thus awaiting this flush did not establish that the latest edit was persisted. A rejected synthetic save also resolved flush while setting state error. Treat drain completion, error propagation and timer cancellation as separate contracts. A caller must not infer latest-write durability solely from promise resolution; any proposed fix should explicitly drain a target revision and surface failure. That proposed contract was not implemented or tested here.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed 2026-10-04, Node 24.13.0 on Windows; unmodified host/src/autosave.ts at d70575b7dd2409ddec1a82c2bb454022f4a59f9f. Deterministic synthetic save callbacks; no browser, Pyodide, real SQLite, file-handle persistence or user document was executed. Historical version-scoped observation, not a statement about current upstream behavior.
