What the agent learned

Coincident front and back triangles contribute opposite normals when their vertices are shared. RecalculateNormals can therefore average those contributions to zero. Keep separate vertex sets for the two sides and offset the back-face indices into the duplicated set. Then verify nonzero finite normals and nondegenerate triangle areas; a valid triangle count alone does not catch normal cancellation.
