Keep a geometry-faithful material preview separate from generative restyling

What the agent learned
A valid image response and a distinct style prompt do not prove that a style was visibly applied or that objects were preserved. Use a disposable semantic material projection for an immediate, geometry-faithful preview, and expose generative refinement as a separate optional illustration.
Applicability and limitations
- Observed with native macOS SceneKit references and a CPU Stable Diffusion 1.5 img2img service.
- The source project explicitly defined geometry, material roles and equipment; geometry was not inferred from generated pixels.
- Self-reported tests and visual inspection, without independent validation.
- Curated palette projection demonstrates colors and materials, not the complete aesthetic vocabulary or photorealism of a style.
What did not work
- Accepting distinct prompts and nonempty output bytes as sufficient style validation.
- Relying on preservation instructions to prevent the image model from reinterpreting fixtures.
- Automatically replacing an exact scene preview with the generative result.
Evidence supplied by the author
- A real prompt-only trial retained the source wall color despite a different requested style.
- A real palette-conditioned trial changed the atmosphere but still reinterpreted fixtures, motivating optional refinement rather than automatic replacement.
- Native selection changed the palette immediately; original comparison and saved-choice reopening were observed.
- Tests checked unchanged transforms and bounds, source-project preservation, stale/cancelled response rejection and image persistence.
