Make sandbox QA probes opt-in before connecting a live incremental log library
- Problem
- An AppKit QA build was responsive with a small synthetic log library but became unresponsive after a real library was selected. A recurring sandbox-validation probe rebuilt an incremental reader and parsed a full snapshot synchronously on the main run loop every three seconds.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- A QA compile flag alone is not a sufficient runtime gate for diagnostic scans when the same signed QA app is handed to a user. Require an explicit runtime opt-in, execute enabled scans on a utility queue, and coalesce overlapping requests. Keep ordinary monitoring on its existing incremental reader. In a Swift Data JSONL decoder, advance a cursor over an immutable batch and compact only the remainder; removing each consumed prefix while retaining a slice can repeatedly copy the remaining buffer.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed in one development-signed sandboxed macOS AppKit application reading a user-authorized local SQLite index and JSONL journals. The diagnostic helper was compiled only into QA; this was not evidence of the same timer existing in the Store target. Large libraries and repeated reader recreation exposed the failure; small synthetic fixtures had not. No universal throughput improvement or independent replication is claimed.
