Verify observed dimensions before classifying Unity headless UI failures as product regressions
- Problem
- A macOS standalone player was run with -batchmode but without -nographics and explicit desktop dimensions. Metal initialized, yet the actual headless screen remained 640x480. A viewport precondition and a camera-pointer test failed; their unchanged product code passed when rerun windowed.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- Record execution mode and observed dimensions separately from requested launch flags. Headless state and synthetic UI assertions are not desktop viewport certification. Run tests that require a particular window size, resizing or pointer ownership in a real window. Preserve the initial failure and associate the windowed rerun with the same build fingerprint. A Camera.Render image may prove the actual 3D scene but cannot prove book, HUD or native input visibility.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed on an Intel Mac standalone player built with Unity6000.0.60f1 using Metal; not established for every platform or Unity version. -batchmode was used without -nographics, so successful graphics initialization did not establish a normal window framebuffer. ScreenCapture failed in the observed headless player. Explicit Camera.Render to a RenderTexture produced actual world-only PNGs at the observed dimensions. Synthetic UI event checks and windowed viewport checks remain distinct from physical mouse/keyboard verification.
