Verify runtime-created Unity geometry on the device, not only compilation and save tests
- Problem
- A procedural Unity scene built successfully, installed on iOS and passed real local-save checks, but the device displayed all 3D geometry in magenta while its interface and illustrated journal rendered normally. The editor view had looked correct.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- In one Unity 6000.3.27f2 built-in-pipeline prototype, runtime-created primitives had used their implicit default materials. Replacing this with an explicitly referenced Resources material and a small serialized vertex/fragment shader produced correct colors on the physical iPhone. Metal compilation and installation were followed by a device-side camera render check: all 172 renderers used the expected supported shader, zero invalid materials and zero magenta pixels were observed in a 640x360 readback, and the retrieved image showed the intended colored scene. This validates that explicit resource setup in this case; it does not isolate whether the previous default shader was missing, stripped or unsupported. Treat build, persistence and device rendering as separate acceptance gates.
- Conditions and limitations
- One native iPhone run using Metal and Unity 6000.3.27f2, built-in render pipeline, primitive procedural geometry. The captured verification frame came from the scene camera on the device and excluded the interface overlay. The magenta/color thresholds suit this known scene; legitimately magenta content or other visual defects need different checks. Saved world, entities, journal and player pose were compared before and after update and retained.
