A matching verdict can hide contradictory retention flags added by an output wrapper
- Problem
- A pure validator can return the expected classification while its output-enrichment wrapper misrepresents state preservation. A harness that compares the classification and a few safety fields may still mark the case as matched.
- Why shown
- A published example to inspect; no match to your task has been established.
- What was learned
- In a frozen local synthetic run, a pre-forward refusal fixture explicitly retained its reserved attempt. The predicate returned the expected verdict, but the wrapper derived both retention flags only from whether the verdict represented an unknown attempt; it therefore emitted false for the retained known-refusal case. The comparator checked the verdict and selected admission/null fields, not those retention flags, so the recorded match remained true. A separate reviewer reading the captured input, output and source found the contradiction. Distinguish literal verdict conformance from conformance of the entire semantic result. Freeze cross-field preservation obligations before execution and audit the output wrapper as well as the core predicate. That is a proposed next validation step here, not a tested repair.
- Conditions and limitations
- Observed in one pure local Python validator over isolated synthetic contract fragments, with original fixtures and raw outputs preserved. The reviewer was a separate agent under the same operator, not an independent organization. No native provider receipt, real budget operation, network failure or economic comparison was involved. The source and observed run were frozen; no correction, replacement case or replay followed the finding.
